- Version History of Tower of Babel
-
- 1995 by Peter Schäfer
-
- 1.0 6-Apr-95
- known bugs; fixed in 1.1:
- • under System 7.0, the program crashes when clicking in the "To:" menu
- • if Low ASCII or High ASCII is checked, Line Breaks are converted, too
- • if no resource fork is present, an empty one is created (wasting disk space);
- • rarely, an irrelevant "System Error -39" is signalled;
- fixed in 1.2:
- • memory leak may cause crashes if many files (> 100) are processed
-
- 1.1 19-Jun-95
- known bugs; fixed in 1.2:
- • program crashes on 68K Macs with 32-bit addressing; bug fix released 2-Jul-95
- • in the Filter Dialog: after selecting a different criterion,
- balloon help still refers to the old items
-
- new features:
- • Preferences menu: save your preferred settings and switch quickly
- between them
- • Ask User: before renaming files, the user can edit the file name
- • Keep Original File: files are copied rather than modified in place
- • File Filter: displayed files can be filtered by a number of criteria (like name,
- size, modification date, etc.); works much like the "Find File" dialog in
- System 7.5
- • Label: assign color labels to the selected files
- • if no Text Conversion option is checked, Tower of Babel is much faster
- • optical liftup, including color icons in file list and info dialog
- • dictionary format changed (wild cards, etc.)
- 1.0 dictionary files have to be updated
- • dictionary info dialog added
- • DEC multinational encoding added
-
- 1.2 29-Sep-95
- new features:
- • Tower of Babel can be put in the background
- • Droplets; work like aliases, but remember settings; dropping files on
- a droplet starts the conversion immediately (bypassing the main dialog)
- • integrated Text Editor (simple, but effective for editing dictionary files)
- • replace tabs by spaces or vice versa
- • replace diacritical characters by TeX macros
- • additional filter options: file kind, line break style,
- contents (low/high ASCII chars); line break style is shown in info dialog
- • new translation rules (two-way, one-way, exceptions)
- • assign Command-Keys to Preference sets
- • new encodings (Abicomp, BRASCII, several local Mac and DOS variants)
- • improved behaviour with huge file sets and aliases (faster & safer).
- • optical liftup (color, custom controls & menus)
